I actually bothered to log into LJ today because I keep realizing I post here (dreamwdith) and forget that I also have to check my flist THERE.
And the first thing I see on the recommended/popular/IDK posts on the log-in page is this which is mostly an angry screed against shortening the copyright length.
DUDE.
DUDE I'M SORRY.
BUT.
Copyright is LIFE OF THE AUTHOR + 70 years. No one is forcing J.D. Salinger to keep writing. We're just trying to argue that after he dies, we should have to wait three generations before we can start transforming his work commercially without having to figure out WTF is exactly happening with US fair use law. (Answer: LOL)
Also, I mean, if you're argument boils down to "life is hard as an artist, guys!" maybe backing some alternative financial options for artists might be a better argument than backing Disney. There are models for this, you know.
