What, you mean in the time between the prequels jossed some EU stuff, and the sequels jossing all EU stuff, there was consistent Star Wars canon? ;) Star Wars canon wars were immense (I assume they still are) because there's too much canon and it's not consistent at all.
I used to pick and choose (Zahn books count! KJA books don't!) but now I've come around to the "if it's not explicitly on the screen in the films, it doesn't count" brigade. I've been burned so much.
