I have not reread Mort in a long long time, and I'm really glad you liked the play, but can only say that probably the wizard was meant to be a dude (there was a lady wizard? i dont't remember which book?) THAT SAID, if Discwolrd is a thing you'd like to try, I recommend starting with one of the standalones (and ones after the first two, which are not as good as what comes later). Try Monstrous Regiment or Small Gods or The Truth or, uh, whichever Moist book comes first, I think it's called Going Postal. There's also, if you're willing to start in the middle of one of the sub-serieses, a Watch book about golems called Feet Of Clay, which is excellent. (the Watch books are police books/mysteries).
