HAHAHAHA DC COMICS.
A single fan at SDCC might have influenced DC's current lack of female creators and characters lined up for the relaunch.
AW YEAH COMIC FANS.
I have been having lots of thoughts on the relaunch since it was announced, but my overall feeling is still my basic "go big or go home." Because DC wants to overhaul their whole line except their precious Batman and Green Lantern, and they want to have at least three different Robins/ex-Robins running around but they want Barbara Gordon back as Batgirl, and they want all their Important Stories to still be canon, (like "Death of Superman") but they want to split up Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
AGAIN, THEY WANT TO SPLIT UP SUPERMAN AND LOIS LANE.
I don't know if I've mentioned this enough, but Lois Lane is one of my top DC characters, probably in some sort of completition with Stephanie Brown and every single person in Birds of Prey. And Tim and Dick are probably in there somewhere. (But happy!Tim and happy!Dick. Not these brooding fellows who keep popping up.)
Lois Lane doesn't need Superman to be awesome. Far from it. But she and Clark make a wonderful, balanced couple and I'm a huge fan of having characters grow up and make life changes. And this is a million times worse for me than the whole Spiderman fiasco because I'm a much, much bigger Lois fan than I ever was a Spidey fan. (I'm a DC. What can I say?) And we might not see as much Lois if she's not even given the "romantic interest" part. AHHHH.
More than that, DC needs to either commit to this overhaul or not. It could be great, actually, despite all the naysayers. Something like this could actually revitalize the slowly dying industry. But it's like DC doesn't geddit. 52 issues at once? Only semi-reboot? HAVEN'T YOU LEARNED YOUR LESSONS FROM ALL YOUR PREVIOUS CRISES, DC? This is what made every single reboot so confusing! You need to ACTUALLY STREAMLINE when you do these things!!
Also, if you at the very let Stephanie Brown be present as Spoiler (or in some capacity, at least), I won't forgive you for what you are doing to Barbara, but I would consider reading something you're putting out under the Batman line. Just saying.
ETA: Just some links related to this issue that I don't want to lose.
Newsarama musings while this thing was getting big. Also links to Laura Hudson's response to Didio on the issue.
I find this article most interesting for the male backlash against these protests. It's a bit disheartening to hear about.
And then Newsarama covers the positive response from DC. We'll have to see where that goes, obviously.
