eldabeSo, due to a combination of factors (friends and the internet mostly, who am I kidding) I saved up and bought a switch....so I could play Hades. It's a game where you play Zagreus, the son of Hades, who is desperate to run away from the underworld and meet his family on Mt. Olympus. It's the PERFECT combination of plot and non-plot. (I find games that are too plot heavy, or require Too Much Thinking, to just...not interest me. I would rather read a book at that point?)
Really I don't game at all, so the fact that I've been playing this game almost daily since I bought it is kind of wild to me. It's basically the perfect game as far as I'm concerned. I just want more more more please.
But I have FOUR CRITQUES.
1. The actors all have British English accents instead of Greek accents. The game itself makes it clear that the Greek Pantheon is connected to Greece, no Rick Rioridan "America is the center of culture" nonsense, so they should all have Greek accents!!!!!!
(I know, the game is an indie game and many voices were done in-house and it's easier to fake an English accent than a Greek one but they could have hired SOME Greek voice actors???)
2. I can pet ONE head of Cerberus and not THREE heads of Cerberus. WHY NOT ALL.
3. I FINALLY meet Persephone after literally HOURS AND HOURS of playtime and slogging through and dying over and over and I can't hug her???? She's Zagreus' mom! Let him hug her!!!! GIMME A CUT SCENE!
4. After Zagreus finally brings Persephone back to the underworld, he fights his way all the way through the whole game again and I was certain, certain that I would get a chance to like, water Persephone's flowers, do some fishing, just spend a few minutes vibing in Greece before being jerked back to Styx but...nope! I want my little gardening mini game with fishing on the side.
Ok, that's all, I just wanted to get that off my chest somewhere! I keep pondering them every time I try to pet Cerberus and have to remind myself that small indie games have limited budgets etc etc.
