The She-Hulk trailer dropped, and I mean...it's Tatiana Maslany, so I expect it will be amazingly acted and the trailer looks fun and funny, but also...I can tell! That everything is CGI! And I soooo wish they had done more practical effects. Even her fact looks like of plasticy and fake.

(But hey, I might actually watch it, unlike, uh, every other Marvel TV show.)

I really wanted them to hire someone tall and buff. Surely there are women in the WWE whom could be the next John Cena.

Oh noooo now I really wish they had done that. It would have been amazing. Even if they only hired someone from the WWE to body double a more established actress*, it would have been so much better. She Hulk isn't unrealistically buff - she could EASILY be played by an actual actress.

*As I say this, WHY does Marvel keep hiring so many established actors. They don't need to! The brand alone is huge selling point. This should absolutely be a great breakout opportunity for unknowns and now they just seem to hire people who are already known again and again.

Marvel is incredibly risk averse in some ways. Yes, they are making movies and shows about characters most people have never heard of. But they continue to hire relatively cheap directors because they are cheap and continue to sign even big name actors to backloaded deals. And for some reason, they continue to think that you need known actors for everything, and then probably point at the "failure" of The Eternals as a reason to keep hiring known actors. Also, CGI is perceived as cheaper than practical effects, especially for TV.

They are risk averse to all sorts of things that would be wonderful, is what they are.

Also, I adore Gemma Chan and I know about as much about her as I do about Tatiana Maslany (which is to say, very little) so as far as I'm concerned, the Eternals did have a big name actor...and I still didn't see it. Marvel just has so much going on, to be honest. I have limited media capacity and I just don't give it to them. They are flooding their own market.

(Sometimes I think about how, fifty years from now, historians are going to look back on this era the way we look back on the era of Westerns, and scratch their heads like. Why...why are there so many of them.)

Someone pointed out that we don't have THAT many superhero films next to westerns. The dominant form of movie today is horror. Which I don't get in the least, to be honest.

I don't get horror at all. I do think it can be useful for social commentary etc etc but honestly, I have zero interest in sitting in a theatre and being terrified for a while. It doesn't work for me!
