Dec. 27th, 2020 00:08So....I love regency romances (or vague historical British romances on the whole). Like, okay, I know, the ACTUAL historical era was terrible to women, the British empire was racist dangerous trash and the classicism was difficult and dangerous.
But oh my gosh, a good Jane Austen adaptation is my candy. The stakes are high, because the stakes of marriage are high, but there's no violence or gore or battle on the stage, and women are equal participants in the story, even if the power disparity is real. And there is strategy and thought but everything is said in calm voices and there is never a cut to any fight scenes. I like it when I'm watching seriously or as background music. (I also like period romance books, one day I'll probably post about my recent addictions to Courtney Milan, K J Charles and Rose Lerner.)
And! Netflix USA keeps giving me ONE JANE AUSTEN ADAPTATION AT A TIME which is ENTIRELY INADEQUATE!
Anyway, this is a post about the first episode of Bridgerton.
( Spoilers for episode one I guess? )
