eldabeSaw the Avengers with a bunch of friends last night. And we were the loudest row in the theater. Not (mostly) in a talking-during-the-film sort of way, but we laughed a lot. And clapped a few times. I did do a lot of happy hand gestures what with the flailing and the OH SNAP moments.
Andiceshade yelled "DAMN YOU JOSS WHEDON!" at a certain point.
I have to say that I spent so much time worried about MariaRobin Scherbatsky Hill that I forgot to be worried about Coulson. AND I LOVE COULSON, SO. D: (And why can't people be inspired to unite by life rather than death? :/)
But then again, Joss established nicely that Fury is a lying liar who lies, so I spent the rest of the film with my fingers crossed and in that last scene on theValiant helicarrier, I was muttering "CoulsonCoulsonCoulson" like fifty times.
I'm a big Maria Hill fan, though, and I feel like she is being set up to replace Coulson. And more women in these movies cannot be a bad thing to me.
Did anyone else get a massive POWER RANGERS vibe from the big bad? Because every time no-eyes big-teeth dude showed up and growled at Loki, I was waiting for some TEENAGERS WITH ATTITUDE to show up and make swishy hand motions.
I was happily surprised by Bruce Banner, because it's an entire concept that has never interested me in the comics. i find it sort of a one-trick pony. Genius cannot control his inner monster and angsts can take me through one good story arc before I lose all interest. But he spent a lot of time being brilliant instead and also WHAM LOKI WHAM. LOL.
Also, there was a lot of headbutting (mostly by Thor) or as I like to call it, "the Ianto Jones special." Fun times.
Conclusion? I WANT A BLACK WIDOW + HAWKEYE MOVIE. I mean, I think Scarlet Widow could (and should) pull off a film on her own, because oh lord the testosterone, but I like her dynamic with Hawkeye, and I would love to see more on their background. REAL HUMANS, YO.
(Other Roommate logged a request for Cap/Iron Man fic, which is HILARIOUS, but I'm going to hand her Sam's stuff and the keys to AO3 because I've not been reading any.)
While six of us were nothing but sheer enthusiasm and glee coming out of the movie, S. our universal downer, complained about the lack of character development and too many characters. I, as a fan, loved the crazy abundance of characters. If you watch the build-up movies it works as a dysfunctional team-up movie perfectly! And, well, skimpy character development and plot holes are the bread and butter of fanfic writers, actually. So I'm ok!
