I have engaged in my first successful tumblr conversations! One involved me reccing a [livejournal.com profile] heddychaa fic and the other one was all LOOK AT GARETH'S FAKE CHEST SCAR so fun times all around.

But I also had lots of important shows to catch up on.

Holby City

So, the tumblrs reminded me that GDL was in this medical drama last night. I can't tell if British medical dramas are more fast-paced than American ones or the accent thing means I'm always a beat behind, or coming in on the third episode of the fifteenth season of a show is a little confusing, but I basically gave up following most of the plotlines pretty quickly.

Gareth is playing a new radiologist who is both sexy and firm. Two nurses were ALL OVER HIM for a scene which was hilarious.

He flirts with a genuinely nice blonde nurse who just started her new position in the hospital and I have decided to ship them. Completely. Mush 'em together. Plus, asking her out made Gareth fumbly. Someone will make gif comparisons to Torchwood soon. :)

I actually enjoyed what I could follow of the episode and I'm definitely checking it out next week. There are all sorts of annoying and hard-to-follow office politics I have decided to ignore. Without them, it's a fun show.

(Plus, want to find out more about black-nurse-in-red-scrubs and red-head-Australian-doctor.)

Arrow

Well, in all fairness I was watching Arrow anyway. I'm a fan of Ollie, at least when he's written decently, and I was planning to check the show out. The announcement of John Barrowman just means I'm checking it out as it airs.

Here are some screencaps I took, though. Warning for being on tumblr and John Barrowman in a suit. John Barrowman in a suit has caused many to despair.

Anyway, Arrow. It's ok. I've been taking notes as I go.

Likes: It addresses the kind of horror and psychological damage someone pursuing that line of work might have to deal with. Ollie should totally call his nightclub "Queens." Deadshot's outfit was cooler than the comics and Deadshot as a character was used to clarify how Ollie saw himself in a clever way.

His dad's suicide scene was well-done and terrifying. Ollie has minor hints toward being a left-wing commie and I'm hoping for more.

Amusing: Ollie has to KILL A RAT BIRD to EAT. And now I have figured out where they're getting their tone from! (All Star Batman and Robin, for the curious. No one has shouted "I AM THE GODDAM GREEN ARROW" yet we'll just have to twiddle our thumbs for that. :D

Unsures: His sister. At first her analogies to Roy were actually really interesting, but she's starting to grate on me. We'll see how that goes.

I was getting tired of the bodyguard plotline, and then they sort of killed it. Which is good if they don't bring it back!

Dislikes: Why can't we have Laurel/Dinah's mother be a positive, protective role model? Her mother has an established and important role in DC Canon, especially relative to her dad. Considering the few women we have in this show (and the even fewer who are "good") it would be really nice to have that instead of ANOTHER cliche cop dad. It would certainly help the Bechdel rating.

Also, he uses the word "virulent" so I'll give them some credit. :D

ETA: I forgot that AfterElton recaps are the reason for television.

Will catch up on Arrow - which has been meh so far - but I want to know if there is any clue who Barrowman is supposed to be.
