(Still not back, this is a fly-by post in the night!)
So, despite the fact that I haven't caught up on the last few episodes of Doctor Who, I was willingly dragged to go see the Christmas special at a friend's house. We played the Doctor Who card game (it is wonderfully messy, like the show!) until slightly before the special began, when we started trying to find the BBC America channel.
When we changed the channel to BBCA, they were just wrapping up the last episode of the season thus far. Now I kinda already know how it ends (THANKS TUMBLR) but both of my friends had seen some video online about how it should have ended and decided that they were going to end it that way for me. So my version of the last episode is basically they're all adorably frolicking in a graveyard or something and then Amy, Rory, River and the Doctor all decide to go on a family vacation together and start heading over to the TARDIS. At that point R changed the channel and declared "THE END THEY ALL LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER."
:D :D :D :D
Have I mentioned I love my friends?
I attempted to liveblog the Christmas Special on twitter so I could come back later and see my reactions but I tried to not spoil anything so my tweets are weird. Plus, I kinda had to pay attention because the explanations for things were so quick that if I didn't pay attention nothing really made sense.
Overall it gets lots of points for not being based on a classic children's/Christmas novel and being directly tied into the ongoing Doctor Who story but I had a few things that were eeeeeh. The Doctor's emo-post-companion depression is not doing it anymore. But I made the decision to be positive! SO HERE IS POSITIVE.
Vastra and Jenny are married! AWWWW! ♥ (Any fics about them avoiding early-days Torchwood yet? Or really just solving crimes and being awesome works too! Um, anyone postulated that Jenny is a post-regeneration Doctor's-Daughter-Jenny yet?)
I want a dozen fics about how memory worms are the main ingredient in retcon. Oooh, I think I have an idea!
Clara Oswin is pretty fabs. (*DELETED NEGATIVITY*) She's pretty sharp, and her story looks interesting enough that I'm willing to play along. Plus, I get to make lots of Rory jokes.
THERE WERE LOTS OF CLEVER LINES. I LOVE CLEVER LINES.
The truth-is-one-word scene. Whoa whoa whoa.
The stairs in the sky were super pretty. Headcanon that the stairs are the TARDIS emergency fire exit. During emergencies, run blind across the SKY and down a rickety flight of stairs of indeterminate height! WOO! \o/
One. Word: STRAX.
♥ ♥ ♥
In conclusion, we have all decided that this is Moffat's Doctor Who/Sherlock Holmes crossover. :D
