A friend of mine announced today that she got into the JET program and is moving to Japan this summer. For those not in the know, JET is a program in which native American speakers get placed in Japanese schools to assist English teachers. I believe they work with junior high age and below.
I have wanted to do JET since I was in high school, but I eventually gave it up based on the difficulty of logistics. And I'm super-happy for my friend but I am also painfully envious. This directionless half-employment is awful.
Plus, I'm reading two non-fiction books to apply to work at two different publishers. The books are great and interesting, but they are reminding me why I never read non-fiction: HUMANITY SUCKS.
Meanwhile, I think I'm slowly crossing the line from "job is worth it for the structure to my day" to "job is causing depression and is miserable." There's no A/C at the office and I spent most of today molecularly bonding with my chair.
In positive news, I got an estimate for how much it would cost to fix my apartment's bathtub this morning. NGL, I felt ridiculously grown-up while I dealt with that. I AM AN ADULT. SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT SUCK.
