I think it must be that a rule now that [profile] fiwen1010 and I can't meet up in the same city twice. Like, a rule of the universe. Because if we see each other again, it will be London or Wrexham or both.

That said, I had a great time with her in York! *dances for geekery*

It is so much more enjoyable to debate meta-type stuff with people in real life. Even when you don't always agree on every detail, because it's a REAL CONVERSATION. Where you can change your mind, or clarify, or agree to disagree without sounding inadvertently rude or angry, which is my main internet fear.

I'm a bit late, but [profile] fiwen1010 did give me words on the meme thing!

If you want words to post, comment here and request some words and I will rattle off a few things that remind me of you. And then you have to tell me, and probably the whole internet, what those words mean to you.

Cardiff
Possibly my favorite UK city at this point. It's...cozy, I guess. Everyone I met there was absolutely lovely, the history is fascinating, Wales is cool, and the bay is gorgeous. Plus, Torchwood, Doctor Who. Walking the streets is like exploring the Whoniverse in patchwork. Torchwood especially, because even if a location isn't in the show, the characters have probably still been there at some point, right?

Plus, it's becoming a BBC base and I am studying media. My Britain Roomie has suggested multiple times that I might want to move to Cardiff. Man, oh man, I would love to move to Cardiff.

Doctor Who
FIRST ASSOCIATION IS [personal profile] anglophile09. YOU. YES, YOU. Because if it weren't for anglophile09, the odds of me being a fan today are far less likely, despite the other people that pestered me to watch it (*cough[personal profile] iceshadecough*). Listen, [personal profile] anglophile09 was really, really persistent and she was there from before the first episode aired in the States. Thanks for bugging me for years to watch it, even though I mostly kept promising to do it and then putting it off and watching Ouran High School Host Club instead. LOOK. I'VE SEEN IT NOW. :D

Doctor Who is tied up in my fandom stuff with Torchwood in a lot of ways, but I will say here now that I like Doctor Who better as a show. It reminds me of Star Trek in that the premise is THE BEST THING EVER. We're going to fly around space and time in a blue box FOR THE SAKE OF THE AWESOME. Why can't every show have the same sort of vaguely scientific and positive outlook on everything? Sure, it gets dark. It gets very dark, in fact. And terrifying. But it's still positive, I think, despite that, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

(I almost bought the stand-up cardboard Donna and cardboard Jack in the Forbidden Planet in Leeds. Then I would have found the cardboard TARDIS and staged my own epic adventures. But cardboard Does Not Pack Well.)

Pub
Great places to hang out with friends, and maybe chat about Torchwood, maybe? :DDDDD

Despite trying, I'll never be a drinker. I like my alcohol to be basically sugar, with maybe some alcohol added. BEER STILL TASTES LIKE PEE, OK? But I keep trying.

I do like the environment in nice pubs though, not clubs, but proper sit-down-and-drink-with-mates pubs. It's nice. Especially with friends!

University
Oh, Britain and your wacky insistence on making the word "college" mean something else. Also your habit of shortening words. I go to Uni now, Uni's are cool.

I have one year left of uni. And because I'm American, it looks like I'll spend most of it catching up on all the requirements (MATH) I've been desperately avoiding. And at some point this summer I have to figure out what I want to do with my life, because of those pesky entrance exam things for any sort of higher education, if I choose to do it. Or just build my resume for a job. *broods obsessively and cyclically about future* But I'm abroad now, which is cool. Even though the University grading system has managed to terrify me multiple times. In my book, a 70 is not a good grade. I don't get it.

London

Ah, London, city of luvors-no wait, that's Paris. Back up.

This term has been, actually, my third time in London in as many years, although the first one was a stopover and the second was less than three days on my way to a wedding. Good thing, though, because it took me those three days to figure out the tube system. (THE MAP IS MORE CONFUSING THAN LONDONERS LIKE TO ADMIT.)

I really like it here, although I can't help comparing it to NYC in my head all the time. The V&A (where I am currently sitting) is gorgeous and wonderful, and the National Theatre might have become my Favorite Place Ever. I have seen a play in each theatre, and I've taken the backstage tour, and I've done homework in the lobby. Hey, I sat there in line one morning at 5am.

I know I'm going to miss London terribly when I go, and I don't know when I'll be back. I feel like I used up all my London chips, and if/when I go traveling abroad again, the UK isn't even going to be on the top ten choices.

Never say never, though, I guess. Maybe next time I'll time it right to see Barrowman in something.
