I would MUCH rather have dead tree books, that I can hold and flip through and smell and also that I don't have to charge in order to read. (Insert Animorphs comment here, darnit, Ax, I will never forget your bewildered comment that books must be a better technology because they don't have loading time.)
That said, I've bought some ebooks, in specific circumstances. And when I do, I try very hard to buy books without DRM, where the maximum profit goes to the author. So...not Amazon, and preferably not B&N or Kobo either. I want a file I can save on my own hard drive and take with me, thanks.
Recently, gumroad has been one of the best platforms for that, but there has been a KERFLUFFLE which I have not followed closely, but I've been pretty annoyed about. And of course, when Things Are Happening What Effect The Romance Community, I popped over to Courtney Milan's twitter account because she's smart and fun and she uses smashwords, but she's generally aware of what is going on and also she wrote the first ebooks I've ever bought I think.
Well, Courtney is a massive figure skating fan and is living HER BEST FIGURE SKATING FAN WINTER OLYMPICS LIFE on twitter so never mind, she is rolling around in fandom glee and that is way more important.
